Packaging Reuse and Recycling Ideas

I’m known for my steadfast reuse of plastic bags that come with zippers or snaps. You know the kind. My new line of linens come packaged in them. They last forever, but more importantly, they keep out moths and dust. They come in a kind of clear plastic that allows me to keep things organized visually, at a glance. I use them for storing things like old sewing patterns, seasonal scarves and shawls, unfinished stitching projects, seasonal undies (you know what I mean ... both my big and my small sizes), buttons, zippers, photos, etc. So, rather than toss the plastic packages my linens come in, let them help you be boss of your clutter instead!

I’m also all bottled up! I can think of 101 uses for canning jars (sounds like a book in the making ... ). Once you’ve used up the wax from one of my pint mason jar candles, simply wash it in hot soapy water ’til it’s sparklin’ clean. Below are just a few of the uses I’ve dreamed up for reusing jars.

Pinkeeper   Flower Jar   Potpourri Night Light
Know someone itchin’ to get stitchin’? Here’s a stitching kit with a pinkeeper top. Fill it with scissors, measuring tape, extra safety pins, a variety of threads, some buttons, and needles. To make the dome top, take some polyfill batting, ball it up, wrap it in fabric and hand stitch it around a flat canning jar lid.   I love giving my jars a hankie shawl and then calling it a flower vase. Adorn with buttons!   Several years ago I grew an overabundance of straw flowers that I keep on hand for potpourri. In this version I took a nightlight, hooked it up to an extension cord, put the nightlight down into a jar, surrounded it with flowers, sprinkled some essential oil on the flowers, then topped the jar with a doily. When I plug in the electric cord coming out of the back, the tiny bit of heat the nightlight generates heats up the essential oil when it’s plugged in and I have a “fragrant” night light.
Another pinkeeper   Lotion Dispenser   Jar Lamp
Make an adorable pinkeeper from your jar with stuffing and a vintage doily. Turn your jar into a lotion or soap dispenser with pumps from Factory Direct Craft or National Art Craft. Make a one-of-a-kind lamp with a lamp adaptor kit from Factory Direct Craft.
